MF Marine Broadcasts From Spain

Spain has some of the easiest MF marine stations to hear in North America. Spain has a long coastline plus two groups of islands - the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea and the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa. So there is a lot of need for marine communications. All the stations are operated by the Cellnex company. The MF schedule shows 28 different transmitter sites used by nine stations organized into three groups. (Tarifa is shared by two groups.) It's a complex system but I've organized the data into two charts to make it easier for DXers.

The first chart lists MF broadcasts by time. All broadcasts are pre-announced on 2182 kHz prior to moving to the listed channels. Sometimes IDs are for the entire group and sometimes they are given by the local station.

The second chart breaks down the transmitter sites by station. Each station uses one site for the 2182 announcement, a second site for marine information broadcasts, and a third site for two-way communications. (Arrecife lists two sites for two-way communication.
